The first wave of F-150 production-ready prototype extended range electric vehicles is soon due to be delivered to Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) to kick-off a pilot study in the PG&E fleet. Specs for the powertrain in the F-150 include a 2.0L, 4-cylinder naturally aspirated gasoline engine powering an 82 kW (peak) Remy DC generator.

If you build a car as a "kit car" with no real factory, then yes, it will never be an economic success. Toyota Prius modders have already been adding larger batteries so the vehicle can run on battery power. when they were forced to put NIHM batteries in the range was 150 miles. 150 miles is fine more.
