Lexus International announced it has sold more than 1 million hybrid vehicles worldwide since the RX 400h went on sale in April 2005. As of the end of March 2016, Lexus had sold approximately 1,000,600 hybrid vehicles in 11 years. In 2009, the HS 250h, followed by the first luxury hybrid compact, the CT 200h, in 2011.

About 90% of orders for the Lexus RX, released in April, are for hybrid models, highlighting the surging popularity of such green vehicles. The 2010 Lexus HS 250h will be available in the US later this summer. In the US, hybrid versions of the Lexus RX represented 7.2% of all RX models in June.

Toyota has unveiled the Sai compact luxury hybrid sedan in Japan ( earlier post ); the vehicle, based on the platform used for the Lexus HS 250h ( earlier post ), is planned to go on sale in Japan on 7 December. The new platform was developed for medium/compact vehicles. The monthly sales target for Japan is 3,000 units.

Lexus will bring the CT 200h premium compact hybrid to the US market in early 2011 as the first dedicated hybrid vehicle in the premium compact segment.
