The ë-Berlingo Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) has a 100kW (136hp) electric motor and a 50kWh battery, giving an electric driving range of 174 miles WLTP. There’s also Flair XTR trim, only available with the M model, which costs £32,280. Citroën’s strategy is to offer an electrified version of every model in its range by 2025.

The DOE grant to the Etec EV Project will put 260 Level III chargers in the ground in the next two years. Better Place has pushed its proposed solution to the range dilemna - battery swap stations. One car maker, Renault, is making cars to spec, and BP has demonstrated the battery swap device in Japan.

The automakers wanted a new $500 million pot for battery research. Bush proposes $81 million, which includes $17 million for plug-in hybrid battery grants. Honestly, much as I want the federal and state efforts to move toward batteries and electricity, we don't really need pure "research." We need cars.

How full is the battery when it gets parked? For most folks most of the time, chances are the battery isn’t near empty when it gets plugged in, perhaps at work, perhaps at home after work. The cord that comes with the car just might suffice for many, especially plug-in hybrids which have smaller battery packs.
