Now Lutz envisions selling hundreds of thousands of Volts a year, probably priced below $30,000. Plans Cadillac Converj, Opel Ampera, other versions. Plans "large demonstration fleet" late 2009.

But it is a price that must be paid, and GM should be commended for remaining committed to the Volt. They only have that many models because they use the same chassis and drivetrain to build 3 different cars, one branded as a Chevy, the next a Pontiac, then a Saturn, etc. Former vice chairman Bob Lutz said as much a year ago.
