There are at least a half dozen different technologies to power cars with electricity under construction. They are either glorified golf cart city cars like this one or they are only for the very wealthy like the Tesla.

that car was missing precisely what the Volt (and any other would-be electric car under consideration today) is missing -- an appropriate battery technology that provides decent power within a decent weight and space constraint at anything approaching a decent price. You guys go ahead and buy your 40 mile per charge GM golf cart.
