GM has announced plans for public sales in 2010, and almost every carmaker now says it will sell PHEVs or highway-speed battery electric vehicles (BEVs) sometime after 2010. Batteries not ready. Shifted earlier focus to all-electric Focus in 2011 with Magna. todays answer is "Yes -- but not yet."

Until then, we can always program the ESS to make what Lotus refers to as "more futuristic sounds for electric vehicles [that] can be created using sampled sounds and generated waveforms." This is especially important for electric and hybrid vehicles which can be difficult to hear at lower speeds due to their drive mechanism.
