Buoyed by the US government’s CARS (“Cash for Clunkers”) program, US auto sales slowed their decline in the US in July, dropping on 12.1% Hybrid gains were largely due to an increase in Prius sales (up 29.7% The 2009 model Escape Hybrid and Mariner Hybrid are the most fuel-efficient utility vehicles in America.

Major Jerry Asher wheels around Arizona in a Toyota Prius hybrid, packing an extra battery and preaching a message to “kick gas” in favor of electric power. Now he’s on a new mission to convert America to plug-in cars. Right now, only the Toyota Prius can be converted to a plug-in, Asher said in an interview.
