The California Air Resources Board has awarded Mebtahi Station Services, San Francisco Airport, Shell Hydrogen and UCLA $1.7 The grants, provided by the California legislature and distributed by the ARB through a competitive bid process, are aimed at increasing the use of alternative fuels.

Four San Francisco Bay Area local government fleets—San Jose, Los Gatos, Campbell and Mill Valley—are deploying a total of 50 Mitsubishi i-MiEV EVs, representing the largest municipal fleet deployment of light-duty all-electric vehicles (EVs) in the US to date.

In-use testing of three light duty diesel vehicles—certified to US-EPA Tier2-Bin5 and California LEV-II ULEV emissions limits— found a wide variation in real world emissions performance relative to the regulatory limits. Overall, urban/suburban driving leads to a 32-39% reduction in fuel economy over highway driving.

Fuel economy is EPA rated at 24 mpg city, 28 highway, 25 combined. The mild hybrid system consists of a 48-volt electrical system that allows the engine to shut off when not needed, increasing fuel economy. In addition, we aim to offer reviews and news on advanced technology and the alternative fuel vehicle market.

The retrofitted hybrid trucks are projected to improve fuel economy by 44%, decrease particulate matter by 96% and reduce NO x emissions by 75% compared to the standard FedEx Express delivery truck. FedEx and our suppliers have demonstrated that converted hybrids are a viable, lower-cost option compared to purchasing new hybrids.
