Enevate, a developer of advanced silicon-dominant lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery technology featuring extreme fast charge and high energy density for electric vehicles (EVs) and other markets ( earlier post ), has secured an $81-million Series E funding led by Fidelity Management & Research Company.

and Mitsubishi Corporation have set up a joint venture—Lithium Energy and Power GmbH & Co. KG—to develop next-generation lithium-ion battery technology with a goal of doubling energy capacity. The companies had announced their intent to do so in June 2013. Our aim is to make lithium-ion batteries twice as efficient.

Although in 2017, Bosch gave up SEEO and was selling the company, and Dyson abandoned the technologies of Sakti3, the interest in solid-state batteries never vanished. Renault, Mitsubishi, and Nissan invested in Ionic Materials. As well as the companies just mentioned, Honda, Fisker, Panasonic, CATL also got involved in this area.

Udo Wolz, the president of Bosch Japan, told reporters that Bosch and its partner GS Yuasa ( earlier post ) “ are on a good path ” in developing a lithium-ion battery with twice the energy density at half the cost, according to a report in Automotive News Europe. The companies intend to produce such a battery by 2020, Wolz said.

At the Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA), Bosch is highlighting its solid-state Li-ion battery technology, saying that the technology for electric cars could be production-ready in as little as five years. Disruptive start-up technology is meeting the broad systems knowledge and financial resources of a multinational company.

The Nikkei reports that Mitsubishi will soon introduce five other electric models, and that by fiscal 2013, it intends to sell upwards of 30,000 electric vehicles and be profitable. The company will also begin supply of an EV on an OEM basis to PSA Peugeot Citroën in fiscal 2010. By fiscal 2013, a plug-in hybrid sport utility vehicle.
