Bosch, GS Yuasa, Mitsubishi form JV for next-gen Li-ion battery technology; targeting a doubling of capacity

and Mitsubishi Corporation have set up a joint venture—Lithium Energy and Power GmbH & Co. KG—to develop next-generation lithium-ion battery technology with a goal of doubling energy capacity. Report: Bosch and GS Yuasa targeting production of lower-cost, higher-capacity Li-ion battery in 2020

Udo Wolz, the president of Bosch Japan, told reporters that Bosch and its partner GS Yuasa ( earlier post ) “ are on a good path ” in developing a lithium-ion battery with twice the energy density at half the cost, according to a report in Automotive News Europe. The companies intend to produce such a battery by 2020, Wolz said.

Report: Mitsubishi Motors Planning Five More EV Models

The Nikkei reports that Mitsubishi will soon introduce five other electric models, and that by fiscal 2013, it intends to sell upwards of 30,000 electric vehicles and be profitable.
