Report: GS Yuasa to produce new Li-ion batteries by 2020 that double range of small EVs

The Nikkei reports that by 2020, Japan’s GS Yuasa will begin mass producing lithium-ion batteries that double the driving range of small electric vehicles. Lithium Energy Japan, a joint venture with trading house Mitsubishi Corp. GS Yuasa is the world’s fourth-largest supplier of automotive lithium-ion batteries.

IDTechEX: solid-state battery market will grow to $8B by 2031

Renault, Mitsubishi, and Nissan invested in Ionic Materials. In 2020 there were the newly developed solid-state batteries based on argyrodite electrolyte by Samsung and a further $200-million investment by Volkswagen on QuantumScape. Ford, Samsung, and Hyundai invested in Solid Power. The latter also partnered with BMW.

Report: Bosch and GS Yuasa targeting production of lower-cost, higher-capacity Li-ion battery in 2020

Udo Wolz, the president of Bosch Japan, told reporters that Bosch and its partner GS Yuasa ( earlier post ) “ are on a good path ” in developing a lithium-ion battery with twice the energy density at half the cost, according to a report in Automotive News Europe. The companies intend to produce such a battery by 2020, Wolz said.
