Stora Enso building €10M pilot plant to produce hard carbon from lignin; electrode materials

The pilot plant will be located at Stora Enso’s Sunila Mill in Finland. This lignin will be converted into hard carbon anode materials for lithium-ion batteries with properties similar to graphite. Stora Enso has been producing lignin industrially at its Sunila Mill in Finland since 2015.

The pilot plant for bio-based carbon materials is located at Stora Enso’s Sunila production site in Finland, where lignin has been industrially produced since 2015.
