It will appear in Europe next year as the Opel Ampera and in Australia as the Holden Volt in 2012. Considering how much GM plugs we do 80% of our driving in the city, those highway miles dont get much use. Toyota Prius modders have already been adding larger batteries so the vehicle can run on battery power.
