Ford Motor Company and Smith Electric Vehicles US (SEV US) have mutually agreed to terminate the development project of an electric car-derived van based on Transit Connect. Azure Dynamics has selected Johnson Controls-Saft as the supplier for lithium-ion battery cells and battery packs for the Transit Connect BEV.

ChargePoint America will provide 4,600 Level II (220 – 240 volts) public and private ChargePoint Networked Charging Stations by October 2011 to program participants in nine regions in the United States: Austin, Texas; Detroit, Michigan; Los Angeles, California; New York, New York; Orlando, Fla.; Sacramento, Calif.; and Washington DC.

The investment includes a grant received from the Department of Energy to help create green technology jobs in the US. Ford is adding a combined 170 jobs at the Rawsonville and Van Dyke facilities to build these key components. Ford will invest about $125 million at its Van Dyke facility.
