EnerDel is scheduled to ship its first cells and packs for the Think City EV on 1 March 2010. The lithium-ion version of the THINK vehicle will have 384 cells in its 25 kWh battery pack and a range of more than 100 miles. The battery packs fit within the existing vehicle package and meet Volvo’s safety requirements.

At least one of these vehicles will be produced in 2010 for consumers in North American markets, followed by production for European markets. Reinforcing a commitment to bring to market a broad array of advanced electric vehicles across all of its brands, Chrysler has introduced five electric-drive vehicle prototypes since the fall of 2008.

A couple of drawbacks to consider might be the capitalization costs of building these stations and the batteries that they would have to have in stock. i think this is the best idea simply because of the ease of such a plan. You could sit in your vehicle while the operation takes place. Battery swapping has its critics.
