GE says the planned facility will produce approximately 10 million sodium-metal halide cells each year—equivalent to 900 MWh of energy storage, or enough to support 1,000 GE hybrid locomotives.

At the same time the cost of lithium-ion battery packs declined 87% between 2008 and 2021. Another chemistry that is coming onstream is sodium ion.
