GM has announced plans for public sales in 2010, and almost every carmaker now says it will sell PHEVs or highway-speed battery electric vehicles (BEVs) sometime after 2010. In late 2008, BYD started selling the first production PHEV in China. Batteries not ready. First Escape PHEV delivered to SCE Nov 2007; 20 in 2008-2009.

Additionally, I had a close frind out in California that just about creamed in his pants when he was able to lease one. Toyota Prius modders have already been adding larger batteries so the vehicle can run on battery power. needs to have an indigenous automobile industry, and not merely "transplants".
