NREL report estimates gasoline produced from biomass could cost about the same as ethanol

Very broadly, the biomass-to-gasoline (BTG) process assessed in the NREL report gasifies biomass to produce a syngas rich in hydrogen and carbon monoxide. tars, and a solid char that is mainly the fixed carbon residual from the biomass plus carbon (coke) deposited on the sand. The two product streams are LPG and gasoline.

The US Environmental Protection Agency released its expected Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) detailing the implementation of changes to the existing Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS1) as required by the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 (EISA).
