—Low Carbon Fuel Standard 2011 Program Review Report. The California LCFS regulation, which went in to effect on 15 April 2010, targets a reduction of the carbon intensity (CI), on a full-fuel lifecycle basis, of transportation fuels (measured in gCO 2 e/MJ) used in California by an average of 10% by the year 2020.

Qatar Airways successfully conducted the world’s first commercial flight powered by a Gas-to-Liquid (GTL) fuel blend last October. Following along the Airbus Alternative Fuels Roadmap, by launching this new initiative with Qatar Airways, we have taken yet another important step to reach carbon neutral growth in the aviation sector by 2020.

The National Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) Project has released two major reports that synthesize its findings from the past several years of work: a Technical Analysis Report (TAR) and Policy Design Recommendations. In the cap-and-trade debate [in Washington] there was no real template, it was political from the beginning.

GE Aviation, which consumes more than 10 million gallons of jet fuel annually at its engine testing centers, has signed an agreement to purchase cellulosic synthetic biofuel from The D’Arcinoff Group (DG), based in Washington, DC, to be used for production and development testing of GE jet engines, starting in 2016.

The carbon intensity of the DME will vary with the feedstock, but with the use of bio-gas (biomethane) from an anaerobic digester as input into the Oberon process, DME can provide up to a 95% CO 2 reduction compared to diesel. Volvo Truck’s DME announcement comes in the context of many years of alternative fuel and driveline development.
