Extended-range electric vehicles — such as the Chevy Volt, which GM says will recharge in three hours — offer another route, adding a small gas engine to keep drivers from feeling stranded without access to fuel. The Roadster can go 244 miles EPA. That means typical range is at least 200 miles per charge.
