New Envisat images released by the European Space Agency (ESA) highlight the dramatic retreat of the Aral Sea’s shoreline from 2006 to 2009. This animation shows the shrinkage from 2006 to 2009. As visible in the Envisat images, the eastern lobe retreated substantially between 2006 and 2009.
