Having started his career at Ford, he was Head of Volkswagen Group Research from 2000 to 2003. He has been Head of the Design Department at Porsche AG since 2004 and was also given responsibility for styling the 2007 Porsche Cayenne, the Panamera and the 918 Spyder. Eichhorn holds a PhD in mechanical engineering.

The first such vehicles were introduced by Volkswagen in 2003, and by 2004, they accounted for more than 17% of the Brazilian auto market. In 2005, their sales increased even further, accounting for approximately 54% of all new car sales. The Model T Ford, which debuted in 1908, was originally designed to operate on alcohol.
