Ford Motor Company began production of its EcoBoost engines ( earlier post ) at Cleveland Engine Plant No. Ford invested $55 million to retool and reopen the plant, which had been idled in 2007. The “downsize and boost” strategy provides consumers better fuel economy without sacrificing the power for driving performance.

Several dozen prototypes on 15-passenger van since 2004; now in second generation development; no production plans. Ford Escape PHEV-40 around 2012.
