SGMW, a joint venture between GM China, Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation Group (SAIC) and Wuling Motors, was established in 2002. In 2010, SGMW had record domestic sales of 1,226,860 vehicles.

SGMW manufactures a range of Wuling brand mini-trucks and minivans as well as the Chevrolet Le Chi mini-car and Baojun 630 midsize sedan. It is based in Liuzhou, Guangxi.

Nissan’s Serena minivan is likely to be the first model to get the hybrid makeover. Nissan is introducing an electric vehicle in Japan and the US at the end of 2010. Nissan froze its earlier development of hybrids in 2002, relying instead on an agreement with Toyota for the hybrid version of the Altima sedan available in the US.

The first vehicle expected to get the hybrid makeover will be the Serena minivan, which is Nissan’s most popular offering in its home country having sold 33,500 domestically in the first half of the year. The company has already outlined plans to introduce an electric car in Japan and the US by the end of 2010.
