TU Mnchen Investigates GE Sodium/Iron Chloride Batteries for Hybrid Locomotives

Scientists at the research neutron source FRM II of the Technische Universität München (TUM) are taking a closer look at a high performance rechargeable battery for future hybrid locomotives, the sodium/iron chloride battery manufactured by General Electric (GE). Volt batteries will provide hybrid locomotives with 2000 horsepower.

During his tenure at the company, he oversaw the design and construction of the Clinch River Breeder Reactor project, a sodium-cooled nuclear facility in Tennessee. He was IEEE secretary in 2000. He taught at the university until he retired in 2000.
