Things have been nuts this week, but I did get a chance to see the Nissan Leaf come to Portland today. It arrived at OMSI this morning and the OEVA got a private session with the Leaf this afternoon. Here's Nissan's spokesperson who graciously answered all our geeky questions about the car. The Leaf boasts a 100 mile range on a 24KW battery pack.

I can't piece together a cheaper system There are also a few downsides to the Belktronix system that I've pondered over the past week: There's only one person making these systems which can be problematic if that person wins the lottery and moves to Tahiti (or gets hit by a truck) The battery balancing system is very similar to the regulators put out (..)

I'll be calling several powder-coating places tomorrow to get pricing, but one person highly recommends using POR-15 rust protector instead of powder-coating. I'm a bit held up right now waiting for parts (what's new.) and thinking about how best to protect the steel for the battery racks.

One person in Longview was gracious enough to take my vehicle back home to Portland on a trailer so I didn't have to sleep in the charging station parking lot to get a charge. The local paper was there and about 30 people showed up.

A few things that are in the works: getting the Civic S20 transmission to a precision measurement person to get an accurate diagram of all the holes and outline for repetitive fabrication of adapter plates ordering a clutch plate and sending it off to EV-America for a motor shaft adapter purchasing relevant EV kit parts (9" motor, etc.)

Given my personality, my big challenge will probably be to slow down and document everything without blasting through and just getting things done. With the Warp9 motor scheduled for delivery the first week of July and the Belktronix controller scheduled for early July, we might have a working system faster than I expected.
