The chemistries that are included in the report are all lithium ion (Li-ion) chemistries, flow battery chemistries, sodium-metal halide, and advanced lead-acid. Lead battery and car manufacturers have requested that the current exemption for lead-based batteries within the ELV Directive’s wider ban on lead in light-duty vehicles is maintained for at least another eight years. There are no current or future resource availability issues with metals used in lead-based batteries. The review.

Several Green Goats are still being used for light duty service, Pike notes, but the vehicles have not been available since 2007. General Electric (GE) has built a plant to manufacture sodium metal halide batteries ( earlier post ), and is showing a prototype road locomotive using those batteries that it intends to bring to market.
