Icom North America, a developer and manufacturer of liquid-injection propane (autogas) systems for commercial and consumer vehicles, has received 17 new US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certifications for its patented JTG II Propane Liquid Injection bi-fuel systems. The GMC-brand vehicles include Sierra, Yukon and Savana vans.

NHTSA issued the advisory in conjunction with the agency’s closing of an investigation into brake-line failures in General Motors trucks and SUVs built in model years 1999 to 2003. The coated steel brake pipes in GM’s vehicles under investigation were similar to materials used by other manufacturers at the time.

The technology study was announced last month by Cummins, the largest heavy-duty engine manufacturer, and Tula Technology, a technology innovator in Silicon Valley that has become a supplier to OEMs. Like Cummins, Tula is also looking beyond ICE , applying its efficiency technology to electric motors to increase range while using less energy.
