The IEEE Oregon Section sponsored the nomination. That approach allowed USB to work at low speed for low-cost peripherals with unshielded cables and at high speed for devices with shielded cables, such as printers and floppy-disk drives. The ubiquitous USB standard has been commemorated with an IEEE Milestone.
