It appears that this engine was not legal for sale in high-altitude areas. Other Sprint models could be purchased with optional automatics that year. The original Honda Insight beat it, but it needed a gasoline-electric hybrid powertrain plus a lot of cutting-edge aerodynamic and weight-reduction tricks to pull it off.
