The 1987 Sprint ER came in second place, due to its insatiable thirst for go-go juice on the highway (51 miles per gallon). The next-generation version of this car, the Geo Metro XFi , was the final new production car available in the United States with under 50 horses , using a fuel-injected version of the same Suzuki three-banger.
