Axion Power International, Inc, the developer of advanced lead-carbon PbC batteries and energy storage systems ( earlier post ), has entered a strategic relationship with ePower Engine Systems LLC. the diesel engine powers a generator that in turn provides power directly to the traction motors.

In April, Axion Power International Inc received an order from Norfolk Southern Corp (NS) for PbC lead-carbon batteries for use in an all-battery-powered switcher locomotive. year involvement with NS, which also includes the parallel development of a hybrid system for line-haul locomotives, noted Axion Power Chairman & CEO Thomas Granville.
