Extended range electric vehicle powertrain company ALTe ( earlier post ) is tracking to produce a limited number of production-caliber vehicle powertrains by December, and plans to ramp up production in the first quarter of 2013, said CEO John Thomas in a recent interview with Green Car Congress. —John Thomas.

The aim of the product is to produce a high power electrical storage system for hybrid racing cars that can achieve deep levels of discharge without degrading its performance. It will be named the Flywheel Capacitor and will consist of a high speed carbon fibre flywheel connected to a high-speed electric motor generator.
