The New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) has selected the Nissan NV200 as the exclusive taxi of New York City for a decade, beginning in late 2013. The City now will enter into final negotiations with Nissan to make the NV200 the first taxicab specially built for use in New York City.

The EPA rates fuel economy, when using the hybrid gasoline-only engine at 30 miles per gallon. mpg, with a breakdown of 174 all-electric and 290 hybrid miles. This is excellent fuel economy for a 5,010-pound nicely styled shoe box. New York City to Toledo? What’s going on under the skin.

There are already spaces in New York City and Los Angeles, and there are now two in the San Francisco Bay Area, where I’m located. Use that number to compare with other electric vehicles or, better yet, use the kWh/100 miles metric that is also on all new vehicles. That’s pretty normal for a battery of this size in 2021.
