At present, PHEV technology alone is equipped to improve the current electric grid. Appendix E: PHEV and the Electrical Grid—fast charge v. slow charge. The plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), a subset of the PEV, uses electricity plus a different energy source (at present gasoline or diesel) to run its second engine.
