FCA US LLC announced an agreement to supply “thousands” of Chrysler Pacifica plug-in Hybrid minivans ( earlier post ) to Waymo to support the launch of its driverless ride-hailing service. FCA previously delivered 100 Pacifica Hybrid minivans, adapted for self-driving, to Waymo during the second half of 2016 and an additional 500 in 2017.

Waymo began their operations and testing with Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivans, but in 2018 the I-Pace was added to the fleet. It’s the first time all- electric vehicles have been added to the fleet since Waymo’s custom-designed EVs were phased out to make space for the Pacificas.

But reliability for some key models from Detroit has risen over the past year, allowing CR to “Recommend” them. While the Chrysler 300 improves to “Average,” the Pacifica minivan falls to “Below-Average.” The Taurus, the oldest model in Ford’s fleet, has “Much-Better-Than-Average” reliability.
