With an estimated peak production of 100,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, Vito is the company’s first deep-water platform in the GoM to employ a simplified, cost-efficient host design. Vito is Shell’s 13 th deep-water host in the Gulf of Mexico. The Vito development is owned by Shell Offshore Inc.

The Ondjaba-1 well will be drilled at a new world record water depth of 3,628 m (2.25 Maersk Voyager is a high-spec ultra-deepwater drillship which was delivered in 2014; the ship is a Samsung 96K designed drillship with several Maersk Drilling upgrades. One one-well option remains on the contract.

Several years ago, with the dream of making a book, I set out to learn and document how people around the world make use of thermal waters. Many told me about the ways they manage land and water as a collective. Heat ebbs and flows with each set of waves.

There is also boating and fishing on Lake Powell, though the water level there has been much impacted by drought. Many, like myself, came mainly for the night sky in Utah, which has large swaths of land with minimal artificial light and a dry climate that translates into less water vapor, which can blur the stars.
