GM has offered Saab for sale, and is requesting Swedish government support prior to any sale. Saturn will remain in operation for the next several years, through the end of the planned lifecycle for all Saturn products. GM will have a total of 36 nameplates in 2012, down 25% from 2008 levels. Its like having a second fuel tank that you always use first -- only you fill up at home, from a regular outlet, at an equivalent cost of under $1/gallon. Lifetime service costs are lower for a vehicle that is mainly electric. At $3 for a gallon of gas, driving a non-hybrid car costs 8-20 cents/mile (depending on MPG).
