The A-Class E-CELL is Mercedes’ second electric car to be built in series-production conditions, following on the Mercedes B-Class F-CELL hydrogen fuel cell vehicle. The motor controller contains the power inverter to drive the motor, two 8kW AC inverters for the power steering and air compressor drives, and a 24V DC-DC converter to charge the standard vehicle batteries. Vehicle top speed is limited to 90 km/h (56 mph) although this can be further restricted for in service requirements.

With a 16 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, 47 kW (63 horsepower) electric motor and single-speed reduction gear transmission, the Mitsubishi i-MiEV has an approximate range of 160 kilometers (99 miles) in the Japanese 10-15 mode urban driving pattern and a top speed of approximately 130 km/h (81 mph).
