The conversion process highly recommends installing a new clutch assembly, so I ordered a clutch kit from Driving Source NW in Salem, OR (part # POR055822) on December 27th. I enjoyed talking about the conversion project with him and hearing about his own experiences with Porsches.

Getting a 914 platform

This is a picture of the yellow 914 that I'm going to be purchasing from Camp914 near Portland as a base platform for the electric vehicle conversion. He ran into a nasty flu over Thanksgiving and then ran into parts problems around Christmas. The picture was taken back on October 14th before it was ready to operate.

I ran out to United Welding Supply today in Portland (on NE MLK) and picked up 20 feet of 2/0 welding cable. a foot, that's the best price I've seen in the Portland area by far. I volunteer at a local non-profit called FreeGeek that recycles computer parts. Parkrose hardware had it for $7.00/foot

The instructions for the AC kit tell you to slide the motor speed control box through the two-inch hole that was cut in the wall between the engine compartment and the rear luggage compartment. Electro Auto forgot to include the post terminals for the most-positive and most-negative connections in the kit.

Since I'm still waiting on parts from ElectroAuto, I decided to take the plunge and do some extensive research on Lead-Acid battery technology. The 914 AC kit uses 8V golf cart batteries and I'm wondering if different batteries like Hawkers or Optima Yellow-Top batteries would be better.
