Ford is opening an E-Transit registration site today for commercial customers ahead of order banks opening by July. To date, more than 450 commercial customers in North America, including 200 top fleets and fleet management companies, have said they’re interested in purchasing the E-Transit.

As part of the earliest stages of the delivery vehicle replacement plan, a contract for 9,250 commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) internal combustion engine vehicles will also be concurrently awarded to fill the urgent need for vehicles. Smith Electric Vehicles US (SEVUS) will finalize the purchase of its United Kingdom-based parent company, Smith Electric Vehicles (UK), creating the world’s largest manufacturer of commercial electric vehicles. The purchase will be split into 20 payments, payable monthly, with the first payment made on completion of the sale.

The new facility—Smith’s second US manufacturing, sales and service center—will not affect production or job levels at Smith’s headquarters in Kansas City, Mo.
