GE announced a $200-million open innovation challenge that seeks breakthrough ideas to create a smarter, cleaner, more efficient electric grid, and accelerate the adoption of more efficient grid technologies. Proposals are sought in three, broad categories: Renewables, Grid and Eco Homes/Eco Buildings.

PHEVLERs make our electric grid more efficient. [ 15 ] Electric power grids are designed with capacity to serve the highest power peaks demanded (e.g. PHEVLERs are better than BEVs in support of the electric grid. when the battery has recently sent electricity back into the smart grid).

Several global indicators on the supply of oil and the known carbon pollution environmental damages its caused all lead us to find cleaner ways of transportation. The electricity for recharging has to come from somewhere, which means power plants. Depending upon where you live, power plants are often burning natural resources.
