Conversions are mostly for the Prius, with a few for the Ford Escape/Mercury Mariner hybrid SUVs. CalCars supports conversion programs as a strategy to increase awareness and support for PHEVs and thereby motivate automakers to build production PHEVs. Conversions are limited to certain vehicle types. So far, most start as hybrids.
