The EPA fuel economy numbers of 21 mpg city/26 highway/23 combined are almost exactly what we got covering 301 miles driving through Southern California. mpg over a 130-mile run with the adaptive cruise control set at 65 mph. Road Test: 2019 Infiniti QX50. Power, but not enough efficiency to hit 30 mpg.

After cruising through Southern California I came away appreciating what $127,300 gets you, which is a lot. The 48-volt system also improves fuel economy, especially on the highway. Running on unleaded premium, the EPA has rated the fuel economy at 19 mpg city/25 highway/21 combined. In 386 miles driving through Southern California, aided by the start/stop (where the engine shuts off when not needed), we averaged 23.7 Using the same 8-speed automatic, the fuel economy is 22 city/28 highway/24 combined.

Such horsepower and torque numbers can mean so-so fuel economy, but that was not the case with the EPA rating at 21 mpg city/29 highway/24 combined. In 286 miles driving through Southern California, we averaged 27.2 mpg, but in a 180-mile all-freeway run with the cruise control set at 65 mph we averaged 32.9 Cruising Comfort.
