York, Empa study finds retrofitting of VW diesel engines was successful

In Switzerland, retrofitting the EA 189 engine was mandatory. The NOx values for the 1.6-liter liter diesel the emissions were even 53% worse.

Papers from BMW and Hydrogen Energy Research Lab show that sufficiently lean hydrogen combustion in properly designed combustion chamber results in close to zero NO x. ID-Technologies, Fribourg, Switzerland. Compared with conventional hydrogen ICE, the opposed-piston engine has a significant advantage for low NO x hydrogen combustion.
