The combination of harvesting whole forests and burning long-sequestered carbon sources such as coal or oil has impaired the Earth’s carbon cycle at an increasing pace. The impetus for this change came from a study by the US Idaho National Lab [ 2 ]. Though this sounds like speculative fiction, these applications are already in use.
