The utility is participating in a national consortium that recently was awarded a federal stimulus grant to purchase plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), and the company is buying more trucks to run on compressed natural gas (CNG) as well. PECO is expanding its fleet with new natural gas and hybrid electric models.

Although consumer tax credits for PHEVs enjoyed bipartisan support in both houses of Congress, concerns over other tax portions of the energy bill resulted in the entire tax package being removed from the original bill. The bill would provide a tax credit of between $4,000 and $6,000 for purchasers of a PHEV.
