The California Energy Commission (CEC) approved $5,580,773 for clean-energy transportation projects including biodiesel production, power control electronics for medium-and heavy-duty battery electric vehicles, and buydowns for propane vehicles. Buy-down incentives totaling $560,000 were approved for 35 alternative-fuel propane vehicles.

The EPA rates the all-electric range at 340 miles, which we exceeded (we hit 365 miles) in our week driving on country roads, city streets and plenty of Southern California highways. Because of this we don’t address issues such as long-term reliability or total cost of ownership. A balanced ride.

Cruising Southern California, we didn’t need the Snow setting, but we did play around with the other two. To maximize fuel economy, selecting the Normal drive mode is key to equaling or besting the EPA rating of 30 mpg city/34 highway/32 combined. The three-year maintenance is a nice feature too, making for a low cost of ownership.
