Moving into the cabin, the Equinox EV’s dash and steering wheel are familiar if you’ve driven other Chevy models (or the Honda Prologue or Acura ZDX). This is a potential deal breaker for me personally, but I’m sure most people won’t care. Road and wind noise were minimal, and bumps were well alleviated by the SUV’s suspension.

When putting the S500 in drive and pulling away, you hear a distinctive click that reassures the door handles have retracted and will not be grabbing the wind as you whoosh down the road. These should diminish as more and more of the grid uses power from renewable sources, such as solar and wind, and as the manufacturers themselves use green energy—some, including GM, already do. One new and more affordable option is the Mustang Mach-E , but the personality difference is substantial.
