Exceeding its initial program targets, the plug-in 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid ( earlier post ) has earned an electric-mode fuel economy rating of 84 miles-per-gallon-equivalent (MPGe) from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). In addition, the EPA gave the all-new minivan a rating of 10 in its Green Vehicle Guide.

Closer to home, the federal fuel economy standards require the average fleet fuel economy of OEMs that sell vehicles in the USA to be 35.5 mpg by 2016. Without the CAFE standard and stimulus monies to promote green vehicle tech, the industry would not be headed toward a greener horizon.

This will be Kia’s first plug-in hybrid for global markets when it goes on sale in the second half of 2016. Kia expects these changes to contribute to a 10% improvement in fuel economy over earlier versions of the Optima Hybrid. It will be engineered from the ground up as a dedicated hybrid vehicle. The Ioniq Hybrid boasts the highest fuel economy in the US (up to 58 mpg) for a non-plug-in vehicle and the Ioniq Electric is the industry’s most efficient EV (136 mpge). This is our first dedicated green vehicle. It is the first vehicle available globally that has three available powertrains for it.
