The initiative provides residents with a rebate of up to $2,000 for the purchase or lease of a new electric car from participating dealers. As a result of this initiative, more than 10,000 electric cars were sold in 2017, a 67% increase over 2016. Overall, most consumers received rebates of at least $1,100 for their new electric cars.

The Drive Clean Rebate provides New York residents with a rebate of up to $2,000 for the purchase of a new plug-in car from participating dealers. For the first half of 2017, New York saw 4,209 EVs sold, a 61% increase from the 2,609 sold in the same period in 2016.

Per the IRS: Beginning January 1, 2023, if you buy a qualified previously owned electric vehicle (EV) or fuel cell vehicle (FCV) from a licensed dealer for $25,000 or less, you may be eligible for a previously owned clean vehicle tax credit under Internal Revenue Code Section 25E. As long as they fit certain criteria.
